None of this would have been possible without Joseph Lai. His quiet untiring leadership, motivational insights and touching poetry inspired and moved us all to action.

Joe would like to acknowledge the following for their deep contributions to finding out more and telling others about Chek Jawa ...

Ms Yap Hui Boon (NIE) - for your great enthusiasm and hard work both on and off the field and making the survey a sweet success. Thanks too to team of NIE students who came to help during the survey.

Prof Benito Tan (NUS) - for allowing us to deposit specimens of seaweeds and sea grasses into SINU Herbarium (NUS) and providing the material and facility to mount and dry the specimens. Most of all, thank you for soliciting expert help from visiting Prof. Liao for us.

Prof Lawrence Liao (USC, Philippines) - for your enthusiasm and kindly help in coming along to our survey, and providing the invaluable identification of seaweeds and sea grasses for us. Much thanks for providing a report/list of his findings too.

Thanks also to you, the fabulous article you did in Asian Geographic, published in Sept 2001; and for allowing us to deposit our fauna specimens in RMBR (NUS).

Thank you also for allowing us the opportunity to host a 2-day exhibition of Chek Jawa at Suntec City in conjunction with World Animal Day, Sept 2001 and providing posters for the on-going exhibitions of Chek Jawa in other locations.

Earth-worms - my heartfelt thanks for your great enthusiasm, sharing the pain and hardwork in the field, as well as the lighter moments of laughter and camaraderie in doing what we all believe in. The knowledge of Chek Jawa that had been accumulated is in no small measure accomplished by your sacrifices and love for Chek Jawa.
