Solitary
sea squirt Polycarpa sp. This creature is quite commonly seen growing on hard surfaces. It is a solitary tunicate (as opposed to colonial). At high tide, it sucks water into its body through the shorter spout and expels the water out the larger spout. Food is filtered out of the water flow. This creature sometimes squirts water out at low tide, thus it is also called a sea squirt. |
