Scorpionfish
Family Scopaenidae Scorpionfish are plentiful among the seaweeds and seagrass. Some are small, but this one was quite large. Scorpionfish are sit-and-wait predators, relying on their camouflage to ambush unsuspecting prey. These are sucked into their cavernous mouths. Scorpionfish have venomous spines that can inject a painful toxin into unprotected feet. So please wear closed shoes when exploring the intertidal flats. And do not handle scorpionfishes. |
