Peacock
anemones
Peacock anemones come in a rainbow of colours. These burrowing anemones
are common on the sandflats of Changi.
Although they look like delicate flowers, Peacock anemones are actually
carnivorous animals that use their elegant tentacles to gather tiny
food particles from the water.
They create a leathery tube into which they can quickly withdraw at
the slightest sign of danger, or at low tide. Thus, they are sometimes
also called tube anemones.
